About the Growth Stage Impact Ventures for SDGs (GSIV) selection
UNDP, EPFL Tech4Impact, Orange, and SAP are collaborating on the inaugural Growth Stage Impact Ventures for SDGs (GSIV) selection process. The objective is to identify and showcase mature impact ventures in emerging countries with a catalytic potential that can drive both large impact and yield.
Thematic and geographic scope
In 2019, only products and services reducing inequality through solutions that empower people in developing countries to access health, energy, financial services and climate data and information services were considered.
Only entrepreneurs in and providing products and services to developing countries were considered. In this case, by “developing countries” we mean countries where GDP per capita is less than US$ 12,000 a year according to World Bank data.

Who can nominate entrepreneurs?

Selection and benefits
A first screening carried out by EPFL lead to a shortlist of the top 23 candidates. At this stage, it was decided to combine the theme of energy with the theme of climate data and information services.
The shortlisted ventures were invited to fill out an in-depth profile to participate in the next round of evaluations. A Technical Committee reviewed the shortlist, their scores creating a recommended list of finalist impact ventures.
Finally, the SGS Advisory Board reviewed the process as well as the recommended finalists so as to confirm which entrepreneurs are invited to Switzerland to participate in both a « prep day » as well as the SDG Finance Geneva Summit.
Finalist entrepreneurs will receive exposure before and during the event, including both specialized and global media. Their travel costs will be covered (economy flight and 2 hotel nights) to pitch at the SGS Geneva in front of CEO-level participants (including >100 investors), where they will have access to a wide network of decision-makers interested to learn more about their innovation and scale up their company. Finalists will also be invited to participate in a prepping program, and they will benefit from a special package provided by the SGSGeneva partners.
Third parties nominating entrepreneurs are acknowledged here. Third parties whose nominees are part of the finalist group of entrepreneurs will receive exposure during the event. We will also strive to facilitate networking with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) during the event.
